easter stuff

back around christmas-ish, we had a conversation with our kids about what our favorite holidays are.

anthony said one of his favorites was easter. ella looked at him like he was crazy.

with eyebrows raised and a totally "are you kidding me" look on her face, she informs us "um, its kinda fake."

so... what about the God of the entire universe dying a horrible death on the cross and then conquering death and sin so you could spend eternity in heaven is fake?

"the talking bunny? come on." duh. and then she rolled her eyes like it was all pretty ridiculous.

clearly, we failed in emphasizing what the whole purpose of the day is.

but even while focusing on the amazing savior we have, its still fun to add other easter "fluff" to our life. you know, on a strictly unimportant scale.

and i usually begin with, "Jesus died on the cross for our sins, so let's color easter eggs." or "we have a resurrected savior so go see how many eggs you can find hidden in the living room." and of course, "Jesus gave us eternal life so that is why i gave you an easter basket full of candy. now can i please have a bite of chocolate?"
and being the awesome grammy she is, my mom had the crazy idea of unstrapping mason from the high chair so he could participate.
it was all fun and games until he didn't get his way and couldn't understand why you don't splash easter dye all over the place or throw eggs at other people.

and... that's why i'm a boring old mom who doesn't have the energy to do all those "fun" things with him yet.

thank God for grammy!

oh, and for raising from the dead!

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: you crack me up almost every time I come over here!

Grandmas are really good for doing the things we won't do. That's why God gave us Grandmas, dontcha know?

And you're a great mom! We don't even color eggs here...I'm the only one who would eat them, and that's a lot of egg salad.
